»Animal Crossing: Wild World
"The world is your bug collection"

Anticipation:

Finally, Animal Crossing is becoming portable.
In Animal Crossing: Wild World, you can bring the forest to you! No
more missing events because you’re away on vacation. Keep on top of
cleaning your town throughout the entire day, whether you’re at work or
at school. And you’re not only getting a portable town, you’re getting
new features to enhance an already appealing game.
Did you love
Animal Crossing, but thought it took too long to move from letter to
letter when using the keyboard? With the touch screen, you can write a
message in a matter of seconds. Of course, that’s assuming that you’re
fast on a typewriter already. The touch screen can be used for everything
in the game. Buttons are a thing of the past. Tap objects to add them
to your inventory, or drag your character to make him run across town.
Are you a neat freak? Organize your things by dragging and dropping
clothing, umbrellas, patterns, items, along with new hats or glasses,
or just organize everything by switching their slots. A new feature in
the game lets you draw constellations from star to star with the
stylus. Even drawing patterns for clothing and wallpaper will be easier
than ever. Of course, you can still use the D-pad and buttons, but it
seems that the touch screen adds so much to what the GameCube game
already had, making things quite a bit more efficient. But that’s not
all that Wild World has up its sleeve. Oh no, there’s much more.
Visiting
other towns was always a drag…you never saw or interacted with your
friends. Nothing ever really happened, you just met animals in the town
and did random things like collect bugs or find artifacts for the
museum. There really wasn’t much depth to the game. Wild World adds a
spin. Up to four human players can be in one town at the same time.
Make a quick footrace around town, or see who can catch the biggest
fish! Maybe even try and to collect the most fruit. And, of course, the
winner gets all of their earnings. You’re not limited to just your
friends towns, though, nor do your friends have to be within range of
your DS. You can find someone to interact with anywhere, any time, at
almost any place, assuming you have an access point to the internet.
That’s right, Animal Crossing: Wild World is Wi-Fi and online enabled!
This
means that at any place that there is a “hot spot” or Internet modem
(requiring a special USB dongle being sold by Nintendo soon), you can
play online! By going to a specific part of town, you’ll see a big gate
with two guards. Just speak to the guards there and tell them that you
want to leave town. And viola! You’re in a giant global town to meet
new people and visit their own towns, and they can likewise visit yours!
Of
course, meeting new people that share in your style or interest of play
isn’t always the most common occurrence. It’s hard to find someone that
you interact with and actually like. So Nintendo has devised a solution
and given you a “friends list”. With this wonderful friends list, you
can choose to play with whomever you wish to, including real-life
friends or gamers you’ve met and liked. If someone should end up in
your town that you don’t exactly agree with, you’ll be able to boot
them out of your town. To promote the fact that the game is on the go,
you'll be able to save anywhere at any time, whether in your town or in
another town, giving you no concern to get back to your own town to
save when your battery is low.
Animal Crossing: Wild World is
setting itself as the gem in a ring of gaming goodness. The new
features, specifically online play, could not have been a better choice
for a title that really promotes interaction. The familiar feeling of
Animal Crossing is in tact and will surely emanate addiction. Living in
a town full of animals will be so much more fun when they’re controlled
by other players you can choose to interact with, giving the game so
much more personal feeling and depth.
